Building a Pitch for Everyone: Redhill FC x Carrington School

Redhill Football Club is proud to be partnering with Carrington School on an ambitious project to upgrade and extend their Astroturf pitch — a facility that already plays a vital role in our local sporting community and will become even more important in the years ahead.

At a time when access to quality pitches is one of the biggest challenges facing grassroots football, this project is about more than just a surface. It’s about keeping football being played, whatever the weather, and ensuring everyone in our community has a place to train, play, and belong.

Why this project matters

The existing Astroturf at Carrington School is over 20 years old. While it has served the community incredibly well, it is now reaching the end of its usable life.

At the same time, grass pitches across Surrey are under increasing pressure. Wet winters and heavy usage often mean postponed matches, cancelled training sessions, and missed opportunities for players to develop.

A new, modern Astroturf pitch with upgraded lighting will:

  • Allow football and sport to be played all year round

  • Reduce cancellations caused by poor weather

  • Provide a safer, more consistent playing surface

  • Support player development at every level

For a club with more than 650 children involved, that reliability makes a huge difference.

A huge step forward — thanks to the Football Foundation

We are delighted that Carrington School has been awarded a £628,550 grant from the Football Foundation to fund the replacement of the pitch surface and the installation of new lighting.

This funding is a major milestone and a strong vote of confidence in the importance of the facility. However, to complete the project in full, around £200,000 still needs to be raised through community support, partnerships, and fundraising.

Redhill FC’s commitment

As part of this project, Redhill Football Club is raising £10,000 to contribute towards the new pitch. This investment will secure 10 years of guaranteed access for the club, providing a reliable training and match venue for:

  • Youth teams

  • Women’s teams

  • The Redhill FC First Team

More importantly, it helps future-proof football at Redhill FC, ensuring our players can train consistently, develop faster, and stay active throughout the year.
